Sir Bradley Wiggins is unashamedly obsessed with the history of cycling and this cannot help but feed into his style – both on and off the bike. The latest release from the Le Col by Wiggins collection is no exception. Whereas previous iterations from the British apparel company featured some more radically designed pieces, the latest collection is inspired by the simplicity of the classic British National Champion’s jersey.
Re-inventing the modern classic
In the now recognisable gold of Le Col, the latest jersey and bib short feature delicate embroidered wordmarks – a standout amongst a field of sublimated fabrics and heat sealed logos. As with all of Le Col’s apparel collections, only the finest fabrics are used throughout. With the HC level of clothing no expense is spared in the pursuit of comfort and performance.
Designed to stand out while paying homage to the great racers of the past, the contrasting rich red detailing and refreshingly different ash-coloured base make for a collection that exudes luxury – and even decadence. Language that would not have been used to describe Sean Yates’ or Matt Stephens’ British champs jerseys from the nineties.
Having been crowned National Champion himself – Le Col’s founder, Yanto Barker – has a vested interest in creating the perfect, heritage-inspired jersey. Le Col are quickly making a name for themselves among kit aficionados, partly due to their dedication to producing top-level products, but also due to the hands on and passionate involvement shown by former British pro, Yanto and his own scrutinising attention to detail.
