Rouleur photographers travelled all over the world recording the 2018 season.

From Le Tour to Il Giro to the Tour of Iran, they have witnessed fine racing in dramatic landscapes, captured telling portraits in unusual settings and taken a unique approach to the wonderful world of bike racing.

Vote for your top shot of the year below.

Michael Blann

Cormet de Roseland, Tour de France: “A sense of place is important in my work and connection to the landscape around. Negative space is king.”

Paolo Martelli

Kasia Niewiadoma: “Strong, beautiful, smart and the best smile in town.”

Paolo Ciaberta

Strade Bianche: “It passes through beautiful villages and cities, high mountains, hills or near to the sea, it comes to your front door. To follow cycling is to discover the world.”

Olaf Unverzart

Tour of Iran: “My credo: do your own thing, things which you are closer to than others, and stay in contact with the works of the big names.”

Russ Ellis

Tour Down Under: “It’s a joy to photograph cycling… every race is different.”

Pauline Ballet

Arctic Race of Norway: “I’m a nature lover, so I definitely try to find the best composition between the peloton and the landscapes riders are passing through.”

Chris Auld

Paris-Roubaix: “Cycling isn’t just about the guys and girls riding bikes, it’s everything that goes along with it – especially the fans and the scenery.”

Timm Kölln

Tour de France: “The smallest gesture can become inflated in significance. For example, at the Kilomètre Zéro, if the race director passes by standing out the roof of his car with his arms raised instead of waving his little flag, then one thinks one has witnessed a potentially important event.”

David Powell

Greg van Avermaet: “For Rouleur this year I made Greg Van Avermaet jump across sea defences, chartered a small plane over the Vendée coast, searched half of Brittany trying to buy a crown for Warren Barguil and rode in a team car with Pippa York at the Women’s Tour.”

Sean Hardy

Sagan’s Specialized S-Works 7: “Taken at a visiting Dover fairground: I went down there early because I knew the staff would still be asleep from the night before but desperately wanted to shoot the shoes there to get images that were bold, bright and had that circus feel. This is my favourite Desire image.”

Benedict Campbell

Eddy Merckx: “The king, at the Rouleur Classic in November.”
