Winter dressing for the bike can be complicated. What's the best way to stay warm? How many layers are not enough? And how many layers are too much? What are all the layers? It can be a minefield, especially when all you want to do is get out there and enjoy being on the bike.
Young and restless fabric company Gobik has its new women's Cold Series collection, which features a wide variety of technical jerseys, jackets, base layers, and bib tights. From top to bottom, we break down each winter layer so you can choose the right kit for you and keep clocking up the miles whatever the weather.
The Murcia-based brand has taken to the international stage and has become more than familiar in the pro peloton. In 2021, Tadej Pogačar rode to victory at the Tour de France with UAE Team Emirates wearing Gobik’s kit, and now it has arrived in the UCI Women’s WorldTour circuit with FDJ Nouvelle-Aquitaine Futuroscope and UAE Team ADQ. Utilising knowledge from the pros, Gobik has perfected its designs to suit the female anatomy, ensuring that female riders from amateurs to pros are guaranteed comfort and high-performance in all their cycling apparel.
Base layers and bras: sweat-wicking and breathable
A supportive bra is key for any sport, but finding the right bra in the cycling apparel market is no easy feat. Needing fabric that is breathable and sweat-wicking has previously trumped female support due to its need to be a thicker fabric. But Gobik has changed the game by bringing to the market two different sports bras that are both breathable and compressive, so you won’t have to worry about pools of sweat keeping you cold under your warm layers. The Women’s Core Bra is specially designed for cycling, focussing on support and comfort. The front is made from an elasticated and compressive fabric, while the back panel incorporates a pierced fabric for better breathability.
For when the weather warms up, the Seamless Top Lithe Women Icelandic Bra is new to their collection and was made in collaboration with the professional riders at FDJ Nouvelle-Aquitaine Futuroscope. Designed for less demanding training sessions and outings, the seamless bra has a medium compression and is shaped to adopt your position on the bike. If it's good enough for the riders in pro peloton who ride hundreds of kilometres a week, we reckon it'll do the job for us as well.
A base layer is the foundation to all cycling outfits, for men and women, in both summer and winter. They help to regulate your temperature and wick away sweat by sitting close to your skin. If you don’t have a base layer that is sweat-wicking, especially when out riding in the winter, you’ll be left feeling wet and chilly even with three other layers on top.
Gobik has a range of base layers designed to keep you comfortable throughout your rides, all year round. Its Skin Cell Base Layer is designed to help regulate your temperature during the months when the weather is on the turn, and in the depths of winter, the Long Sleeve T-Shirt Winter Merino Base Layer will keep you warm and comfortable even in temperatures as low as minus five degrees Celsius.

Jerseys: sleek and aerodynamic
Gobik is keen to listen to its customers and in response, has launched the Blend colour line to add to its women's selection. It now offers three ranges in women's jersey; Black, which is a solid colour; Printed, characterised by colour; and Blend, where it straddles the two ranges by adding colour and patterns to the sleeves, pockets and inside of the neck.
A favourite in the Gobik collection, the Cobble Jersey has been tried and tested around the world. Made to provide warmth and comfort to all cyclists, the plush fabric used will protect against the harshest of conditions. The cuffs have been optimised for perfect thermal balance in your most demanding winter workouts, fitting snugly around your wrists so they also sit seamlessly under a jacket if you need an additional layer.
Lightweight, versatile, aerodynamic, and comfortable – the Gobik Pacer Jersey is a wardrobe staple. In a minimalist but sleek design that can be worn on its own or under a vest or jacket dependent on the weather, this jersey is bound to become the one you reach for the most, many months of the year. With a close to the body fit, the jersey is designed to move with you. With three colours available – Jet Black, Blazing Bone, and Denali – this high-performing jersey is a great all-rounder.
Jackets: protective and high-performing
Gobik knows how to work with technical fabrics, and all of its jackets demonstrate its expertise in innovation. The Jet Jacket, created for the pros, is made with a Polartec NeoShell insulated inner and breathable but waterproof outer shell. With sealed seams and a neoprene rear skirt, you'll be extra protected against rain and splashes. Keeping it all about the technology, the jacket itself is relatively plain in black with just the Gobik logo branded on the front and rear. The jacket also has three large capacity pockets with integrated eyelets to keep any water out – ideal for a wet winter ride!
The Skimo Pro Jacket is also a high-performing technical jacket made for cold conditions. Using Event DVstretch fabric, only available in Spain, for the front panels, collar and sleeves, the jacket provides extra protection where you need it most. The rear of the jacket has three large capacity pockets with a large mesh pocket, which allows you to store objects safe from the cold and rain.
For changeable weather conditions, Gobik has launched its Mist Jacket. Aimed at regular training rides or outings in cool temperatures, wind and light rain, this jacket may perform better during the autumn season. The mix of fabrics used to construct the jacket, ensures that you are protected from the elements but kept cool and comfortable from the inside. A close-fitting structure favours aerodynamics and aggressive race position on the bike.
Layers are crucial for keeping you warm, but when the heavens open none of them are worth a thing without a quality waterproof jacket to protect you. For a jacket that’ll leave you dry even in the heaviest of down pours, Gobik’s Pulvia Jacket is made to be lightweight, waterproof, and breathable. Thanks to its quick-drying fabric, the Pulvia is easily packable for your rear jersey pocket, making it the perfect ‘just in case’ jacket to add to your collection.

Bib tights: warm and compressive
Since its inception, Gobik has encountered the highest level of competition and was pushed to bring a high-performance kit to the general public, even for those winter rides. Its Limited 5.0 Bib Tights, which have recently launched, meet these requirements with its thermal fabric which is designed to keep you warm during single-digit temperatures without them feeling thick and heavy to wear. A versatile bib tight, they can be worn for training rides or regular outings.
Taking what it knows from the professional peloton, Gobik's Absolute 4.0 Bib Tights are made from a high muscle compression fabric. Made for riding in temperatures between zero and 15 degrees Celsius, these tights are designed for high intensity efforts during windy conditions with light rain. Reflective panels at the bottom of the leg ensure visibility during low light, a handy feature as the bib tights only come in black. If you are looking to race this winter or put in some hard efforts, these bib tights will be the right ones for you.
Both the Limited 5.0 and Absolute 4.0 tights have Gobik’s K9 female chamois pad which is specially designed for the female anatomy, keeping you comfortable for long hours on the bike. They are also made with elasticated and compressive suspenders to keep athletes in a balanced and uniform manner.
