Chris Juul Jensen: Giro stage 16

"What was that?? Insane… scary atmosphere going down Gavia." Suffering on the Stelvio at the 2014 Giro

Stage 16

Ponte di Legno to Val Martello, 139km

Stage winner: Nairo Quintana (Movistar)

What was that?? Insane… scary atmosphere going down Gavia. All alone. Riders dropped behind and front group well ahead. Surreal feeling being completely alone. Snow and panic! What’s happening?? Is the race gonna stop? Where is everyone??

But I just kept riding down the descent. Nothing else to do. Then I finally spot a small group of riders! I’m safe! Fellow warriors, civilisation, massive feeling of relief… fought it out together. New record of rain jackets… 5 rain jackets down Stelvio!! Make it to the finish and what do I do? Drink wash lotion that was in a bottle! At least my insides are clean now!

Global warming is fucked up!!
