To achieve the double of Vuelta a España and Giro d’Italia wins in one season takes some doing in the modern era. Alberto Contador was the last man to achieve the feat in 2008.
Imagine, then, finishing the Vuelta in April, the race’s date on the racing calendar until 1995, then three days later lining up in Trieste to spend another three weeks in the saddle at the Giro. And winning them both.
As the company founder celebrated his 65th birthday this year, Officina Battaglin has marked the occasion with a special edition frameset. There will be only 65 of the “Collezione Speciale”, each handmade in Italy from Columbus SL tubing.
The chrome-plated lugs and rear triangle are, as you can see, gorgeous; the sloping fork crown, a thing of beauty. Each frame carries an engraved identifying numbered plate.
And, to top it off, the frameset comes with Officina Battaglin’s “One Million Miles Warranty”, transferable to any owners of the frame over its lifetime – although why anybody would want to part with one is beyond us.
Meet Giovanni Battaglin at the Rouleur Classic in London, Friday November 4.
