Desire: Katusha Light Rain Jacket

Desire: Katusha Light Rain Jacket

The matter of a good rain jacket is not to be taken lightly. It isn’t just about keeping the rain off you as Nathan Haas explains

Riders swap energy bars. They talk to each other and swap stories. They tell their mates what they truly think of the bikes they’re riding, and the kit they’re riding in. One thing that’s been apparent this season is that the Katusha-Alpecin squad is pretty impressed with their Light Rain jacket. Haas any of them told you about it?

There aren’t too many items of cycling kit that get worn year round. Rain jackets are transitional, especially if you happen to live in the northern hemisphere. For a club cyclist that only gets to ride outside at the weekend, those hours in the lanes are precious. Why should rain put a dampener on it?

Procyclists ride regardless. They race in the rain, therefore, they’re going to have to go out and train in it. They spend a lot of time in the saddle. They change teams and their sponsors change, so they’re in a good position to have an opinion of what works and what doesn’t.

We asked Nathan Haas who, let’s be honest, has been a bit of a pusher of the Katusha Sports Light Rain Jacket amongst his peers in the peloton.

“When you think about a rain jacket, you think it’s a really simple thing,” he says. “It’s just has to keep you dry, but there are so many elements that come into play. It’s about weight. It’s about material thickness. It’s even about the size of the zipper. Is it too big? Is it too small?

“It’s about the quality of the zipper. It’s about the quality of the seams. About having accessible pockets. That’s a huge consideration. Katusha Sport has taken a lot of feedback and concerns from all of the riders and I think it’s the best product on the market, not just racing, but also for training.”

You don’t have to take his word for it, but a recommendation doesn’t come much higher.
