The concept of our daily Tour 'Top Banana" piece, in case you are unfamiliar with it, is to celebrate the unsung hero of the day; the lesser-light who has done a cracking ride that has gone unrecognised.
But nothing came close to the performance of Rohan Dennis in the prologue in Utrecht. The former hour record holder smashed his way around the 13.8km course, breaking the longstanding record Tour de France time-trial speed of Chris Boardman in the process: a phenomenal 55.446kph.
The BMC rider from Australia sat tight in the hot seat for what seemed like an eternity, smiling broadly as favourite after favourite fell by the wayside.
Fabian Cancellara came up short; Tony Martin wilted in the heat; Alex Dowsett was never in the running; Tom Dumoulin, cheered to the rafters by his home crowd, couldn't quite lift his pace sufficiently.
So, sorry to Steve Cummings, with a very creditable tenth spot. Dennis is the pick of the bunch today and gets a yellow banana to stick in the back pocket of his yellow jersey.
Keep smiling, Rohan.
